Caravanners retrace original route

In 1884/5, a naval surgeon and writer called Dr William Gordon Stables published details of the journey he undertook in The Wanderer - the first ever caravan specifically designed for touring and holiday use.
Now, members of Dr Stables' family will follow the same route, but in very modern caravans.
The doctor's great grandson, Alan Gordon-Stables, set off from the family home in Twyford, Berkshire last week and is hoping to follow the original route his relative took to Inverness over a hundred years ago.
Wherever possible, Mr Gordon-Stables plans to stop where his great grandfather stopped and visit the sites seen on the original journey.
"I have been planning this trip for many months, and am looking forward to discovering what I can about my great grandfather's amazing journey - but equally anticipating the pleasures of caravanning 21st century-style," explained Mr Gordon-Stables.
The Wanderer itself has already played a part in the Caravan Club's celebrations, as it has been on display at the NEC's National Boat, Caravan & Outdoor Show in February.
