Quality of caravan insurance adverts improves

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has revealed that companies have improved the standard of advertising for car and caravan insurance, since concerns were raised earlier in the year.

In January, the FSA voiced concerns about how insurers were marketing motor insurance products for cars and caravans. It found that 45 per cent of motor insurance adverts were misleading.

However, a recent investigation found that 94 per cent of motor insurance adverts now fairly depicted the savings caravanners could make.

"We said in January that firms needed to shape up and fast, so this progress is good to see," explained Vernon Everitt, the FSA's director of retail themes.

"What really matters now is that standards remain consistently high across print, broadcast and other advertising and we will be watching to make sure that they do.

"In the meantime, consumers should always look beyond headline savings and other claims to ensure that the cover on offer is right for them."

Recently, Mike Stammers, the assistant manager of Alan Blunden, explained that a greater number of companies were considering offering specialist caravan insurance deals as the pastime was becoming more popular.
