Caravanners 'well catered for in Denmark'
Article Published On 22 May 2007
With over 7,000km of beaches, the country has recently proved to be something of a hit with caravanners looking for a slightly unusual summer holiday destination.
Perhaps surprisingly, Denmark is the country in Europe with the most beaches which have been awarded Blue Environmental Flags for their cleanliness and safety.
The fact that Denmark is well served by ferries from the UK makes it a perfect destination for people and their motorhomes and the well-maintained roads make getting around once there really easy.
Similarly, the country has a multitude of caravan sites, as a spokesperson for Visit Denmark explained: "Denmark has some of Europe's best camping and caravan sites, with over 500 approved sites, many of which are located close to the water's edge so campers are only a few feet away from a refreshing dip in the sea.
"[They range] from one-star camp sites with basic facilities up to a small number of five-star sites with restaurants, spas and swimming pools as well as outdoor activities such as cycling, fishing and horse riding along the beach."
Indeed, the Lonely Planet adds: "Denmark offers a story box mix of lively cities and rural countryside. Ancient castles, ring forts, jazz festivals, [and] the sleekest modern design you'll ever see."
