According to the Caravan Club, the caravanning industry is now worth approximately £16 billion.
As more and more people follow the lead of caravanning celebrities - such as Jamie Oliver, Robbie Williams and Kate Moss - insurers are warning that insurance is vital.
"Many people take caravan breaks to escape the pressures of everyday life but it is important that holidaymakers are aware of the potential dangers and keep a watchful eye on their caravan and belongings to ensure that their trip remains stress free," explained David Neave, the director of general insurance for Co-Operative Insurance (CIS).
The company's research found that the average value of an insurance claim for a caravan was £1,826 and that theft, followed by storm damage and impact, are the most common reasons cited for a claim.
Recently, it was reported that Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay had joined the caravanning craze - purchasing a luxury motorhome to provide comfort at this year's summer festivals.
