Caravan park helps out local wildlife

Recently, a flood defence wall which protects parts of the Riverside Holiday Park near Wooler, Northumberland, was increased.
This work caused some disruption to the local wildlife and, to make amends, local Environment Agency staff will install bird boxes, insect shelters and floating islands around the caravan site over the summer months.
"Working closely with the owners, we will enhance the wildlife habitats on site and this should increase the enjoyment of visitors to the site," explained Bob Carrick, the local levy project co-ordinator.
"Visitors to these attractive sites are not necessarily aware of the flood risk, and the project aims to protect them whilst they relax on holiday."
The Riverside Holiday Park is indeed an attractive place for caravanners to visit. The caravan park is set in 80 acres of Northumbria countryside.
Once people have parked their mobile home, they can enjoy all manner of outdoor activities - from hiking to fly fishing.
