Caravanning 'greener than air travel'

In a show due to be broadcast tonight (May 9th), the Caravan Channel TV programme will reveal that caravanning holidays are at least four times greener than vacations which involve air flights.
The show's producer, Chris Gosling, revealed that a return flight to a traditional holiday location like Alicante for a family of four typically produces around 3,300lbs of CO2 emissions.
In contrast, Mr Gosling said that a family travelling 1,200 miles in a two-litre diesel family car towing a medium-sized caravan produced only 990lbs.
"Of course, many people talk about reducing their carbon footprint, and maybe take steps towards it in a personal way, but caravanners, motorhome users and campers are really doing something large-scale and serious about it," Mr Gosling explained.
"Add to this the fact that caravanners, motorhome users and campers don't require massive hotels, requiring a massive carbon investment for construction, and even more for their daily operation, and you have a seriously green, environmentally friendly holiday industry."
Separately, Mr Gosling revealed that he plans to expand his programme, moving to a new one-hour format in the next few weeks.
