Caravan owners advised to be vigilant

Police forces in Cornwall and Cambridgeshire have both reported a number of caravan crimes in recent weeks. Six caravans have been stolen from towns around Cambridgeshire in the last two weeks.
Richard Burgess, the director of cover4caravan.co.uk, warned that caravans are particularly susceptible to theft and that owners should always take basic security measures.
"Caravans are susceptible to being stolen, especially at this time of year," he warned.
"Minimise the risk by never ever leaving the van overnight in a lay-by or unhitched in car parks or other communal area, no matter how short a time you intend to be away from your property. Likewise, when loading and unloading the caravan make sure it is secured when left unattended."
Community safety offer Trevor Bracken added that caravan thieves were becoming more sophisticated and that owners needed to think about investing in new security measures to beat them.
"Owners of caravans should consider installing tracking equipment which helps police trace their caravan if it is stolen. Post-coding is recommended and can aid the identification of a stolen caravan," Mr Bracken concluded.
Recently, West Yorkshire police reported that they had successfully implemented a number of measures designed to cut the number of caravans which were stolen in the county.
