Local police focus on cracking caravan crime

Measures introduced last year proved to be successful, cutting caravan-related crime by 70 per cent and the police force has pledged to keep up the work.
"By working with the caravan industry and having a more focussed policing approach there has been significant improvements for little investment of time and resources," said Detective Sergeant David Hey, of the Force's community safety department.
"One of the tactics has involved road and motorway policing teams checking caravans using a special micro-chip scanner. Coupled with a number of intelligence-led arrests and cross-border operations with neighbouring forces, the result shows a dramatic reduction in the numbers of caravans stolen in West Yorkshire."
Detective Sergeant Hey concluded: "The figures from last year show that West Yorkshire was not the place to steal caravans and we intend to keep the fear of this type of crime with the criminal."
West Yorkshire boasts several picturesque caravan parks including Lower Heights Farm at Silsden, Bronte Caravan Park at Haworth, and Parrock Farm Caravan Site at Mytholmroyd.
