After two-year old Triple Five smelled food inside the caravan on Saturday (March 24th), he managed to open the door using his teeth. However, once inside the horse was unable to get out and quickly became stuck.
After a discussion between the animal's owner and local fire and rescue officials it was decided that the caravan - which was located at Newgate Lane, Fareham, Hampshire -had to be scarified to save the animal.
Animal expert Anton Phillips was on the scene and explained what happened: "Triple Five was sedated, after which we cut a hole in the caravan in order to ease him out. It was a successful extrication."
Mr Phillips praised the horse's owner, who had managed to calm down the animal until Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services arrived and freed the beast.
Caravan enthusiasts worried about animals causing damage to their own vehicle could consider insurance to guard against possible accidents.
