Caravanning has long been a favourite pastime among those holidaying in the UK and this has been acknowledged with a designated category for the Caravan Holiday Park of the Year.
The shortlist has now been revealed and the standard of the caravan parks challenging for glory is testament to the quality of the industry as a whole.
Hugh Taylor, chairman of the England Marketing Advisory Board (EMAB), said: "Each year the judging proves more and more difficult, which is a positive reflection on the rising quality of the tourism offering in England.
"This year there has been a great deal of financial investment demonstrated by entrants who are working hard to lead the way in terms of innovation whilst maintaining quality and excellence in their field."
With its spectacular scenery and unrivalled reputation for outdoor activities, it is unsurprising that the Lake District is represented heavily in the latest shortlist.
Skelwith Fold Caravan Park in Ambleside is just one of seven finalists from the north-west of England, but it will face stiff competition from around the country.
With spectacular views of the Langdale Pikes, however, the park is certainly in with a shout, aided by its proximity to the charming towns of Ambleside and Hawkshead and a number of sublime lakes.
One of the judges, Brian Richardson, is the executive secretary of the Caravan Club, and he is delighted with the quality of the finalists.
"Once again we were faced with a really tough challenge as standards seem to improve each year. However, we feel that the results are an honest reflection of the very best that England has to offer across the board," he said.
