Beckett to write caravan tome

Foreign secretary Margaret Becket is to publish a book on caravanning.

Ms Beckett, well-known in Westminster for her love of caravans, allegedly "jumped at the chance" to write a book about her beloved past-time.

Entitled Teach Yourself Caravanning, the book is to be published by Hodder Headline and aims to persuade British holidaymakers to take their caravans out on the road, suggests the Scotsman.

A spokesperson said the publishers "wanted her to write the foreword to the new book, which is coming out in the summer and she was delighted to do it".

The spokesperson added that Ms Beckettt "was very happy to do it because caravanning has given her so much pleasure and she hopes others will be able to get the same enjoyment from it".

Last year Ms Beckett and her husband were unable to take their caravan out as the foreign secretary had undergone a double heart bypass.
