SMMT: Motorhome sales grow
Article Published On 16 February 2007
It seems Brits cannot get enough of motorhome and caravan holidays with the new figures showing 8,638 such vehicles were registered in the UK in 2006.
This was a pronounced increase from the 4,477 motorhomes that were registered in 1998. It also represents no mean investment from the nation's enthusiasts with vehicles costing up to £50,000 each.
Kathy Giles, Camping and Caravanning Club member, told icWales that the typical demographic was people over the age of 40 and families.
She added: "A lot of people buy them and use them for just two weeks of the year, which seems a waste of money to me. Younger families go for caravans because of having the car to do things."
Recent celebrity converts to motorhome and caravan holidays include Margaret Beckett and Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay.
