Caravanning is hip again

This is the claim of the Caravan Club, now in its 100th year, which has just published new figures showing the full extent and popularity of the traditionally grey UK pastime, reports the Metro.
In fact, caravanning now holds 17 per cent of the UK holiday market and the Caravan Club signed up a record 57,000 families in 2006, with around one million members in total.
And it seems even some of the UK's coolest celebrities are taking it up for a spot of relaxation with self-confessed 'Caravanaddicts' including Jamiroquai's Jay Kay, Take That's Mark Owen and sassy Scot Gail Porter. Oh and cabinet minister Margaret Beckett is fond of a caravan trip or two.
Nikki Nichol, Caravan Club spokeswoman, said: "People are realising the freedom it affords you. It is easy to take lots of mini breaks."
Motorhome sales increased from 8,800 in 2005 to 10,000 in 2006, figures show.
