Caravan drivers see licence change
Article Published On 14 December 2006
Caravanners had feared that they would all soon be required to own both a B and E licence before they could tow their mobile home.
Such a law had been put forward by the European Commission but following discussions with a number of leading bodies the European Parliament decreed that those solely holding a B licence will be able to tow a trailer weighing more than 750kg as long as the combination of the two vehicles does not exceed 4,250kg.
The move was one of a number of major changes to the system of driving licences in the EU.
From 2013, all new or replaced licenses will be in a single credit-card sized format, which will replace over 100 different models that are currently being used by the member states.
