The Market Weighton company has seen an increase in the number of motor home enthusiasts who are opting for luxury extras such as flat screen TVs and surround sound systems, reports the Yorkshire Post.
Discover Leisure yesterday announced pre-tax profits of £226,000 for the 16 months to August 31st compared to a loss of £293,000 the previous year. After the acquisition of Harringtons Caravans and Leisure World, Discover Leisure is now one of the largest caravan companies in the UK.
David Morrow, company chairman, explained how many of the caravans the company was now selling were decked out to the highest level.
He said: "They have flat screens TVs that drop out of cupboards, a beechwood timber finish, hi-tech surround sound systems, air conditioning, built-in showers and a very contemporary design.
"At a time when people are increasingly worried about aeroplane terrorism and longer check-in times, more and more people are choosing to buy a motor home."
The European caravan market sees around 30,000 vehicles sold each year and is worth in the region of £1.6 billion.
