Caravanners hit back at Clarkson
Article Published On 7 November 2006
The television presenter has spoken out about his dislike of caravans on Britain's roads and destroyed two of the vehicles a night at the MPH 06 motor show at Birmingham's NEC and London's Earl's Court over recent weeks, according to the Mirror.
A number of Caravan Society members launched protests outside the Birmingham event and the group has also printed car stickers and badges bearing the slogan: Hate Clarkson, Love Caravans.
However, Mr Clarkson, who is well known for his strong opinions on the motoring world, has not backed down, telling the newspaper that: "When I come to power, caravanning will be banned."
Despite Mr Clarkson's comments, caravanning continues to be one of the most popular pursuits in the country.
According to the Scotsman, the caravan was recently voted as one of the top 20 motoring inventions by readers of Auto Express.
