If you already own a caravan or are about to buy a new or used caravan then you need to carefully consider where you are going to store it. There are a number of options available to you, including
Clearly storing a caravan at your home requires that you have enough space and can put it in a location that is not going to cause any issue for yourselves or indeed your neighbours.
If you regularly use a particular caravan site there may be the opportunity to store your touring caravan for periods of time at the site. The security though may not be ideal and may be an issue for your caravan insurance. You would need to check the position as should the caravan sustain some damage or even be stolen you need to ensure you would be covered by your insurance.
Storing your caravan at a specialised secure site does have attractions. The Caravan Storage Site Owners' Association (CaSSOA) is a central body which provides a register of approved caravan storage sites, those sites that have met their required level of security and services eg
There is also the 'Secured by Design' standard which some caravan storage sites have achieved. This is a UK wide police initiative supporting the approach of 'designing out crime' by using crime prevention and security satandards.
If you can use a CaSSOA approved touring caravan storage site or one that has reached the 'Secured by Design' requirements then so much the better. There are many of them now all over the country.
A good storage site will offer services over and above the straight storage of your caravan eg
Caravan storage charges are usually levied on an annual or six monthly basis although if required you may be able to find some offering short term storage for a month or even less. Storage of your caravan may be required over winter only and some sites will offer rates for this.
