Caravan Parks

There are over 3000 caravan parks in the UK from small caravan parks such as the Caravan Club's certified location parks (CLs) to huge sites that can accommodate 500 or more statics and touring pitches.

So whether you prefer just to visit Club sites or you like to take your chances with an independent site the choice is endless.

The advantages of going to club sites is that they are regulated and they have set levels of hospitality, quality and provision but if you are a bit more adventurous sometimes you can find superb privately run holiday parks off the beat and track.

If you have a hand book or park directory these places shouldn't be too hard to find.

Most caravan parks with touring pitches will provide you with all the mod cons you need such as electrical hook-up points, fresh water and waste points, toilets, and heated shower facilities; making your holiday a bit easier and more.

Staying in a smaller parks could mean that the on site entertainment facilities are few and far between if not non existent so if you're not looking for a really quiet break this could be a disadvantage especially if you have children.

Bigger parks often tend have lots of day time and evening entertainment to ensure you and your children will be adequately entertained, such as swimming pools, kids clubs, safe play areas, restaurants, fully licensed bars and regular day time and evening events. Generally the amount of entertainment will be reflected into the price with some parks having pitches from as little as £3 to £5 a night whilst larger more popular resorts can charge over £20 a night depending on the season and how busy they are, it is wise to check out the facilities and pricing before hand to make sure that you are not paying over the odds.

Also if you like to take your pets on holiday most parks do allow them however be aware that there may be a charge for this and a limit on how many.

Pre-booking and planning your caravanning holiday is always advisable to avoid issues such as arriving at a park and finding that it is full or that they do not permit your kind of caravan or motor home. You should aim to choose a good location that suits you and your travelling companions; you may like the wind of the Norfolk broads rocking your caravan at night but Cousin Jim and Fido may not; so it's always best try to find a happy medium. There are so many locations to choose from, be it the Scottish Highlands, the Dorset Downs, or a Somerset Gorge; choose somewhere that will suit everyone and that has enough amenities or you all. If you plan your trip appropriately you shouldn't have too much trouble having the perfect break.

Remember, though, that if you choose to travel within the confines of Britain to come well prepared for all seasons, after all the great British Summer Time isn't exactly renowned for it's predictability. Even it is July I still wouldn't put money on it not raining!
